Zimbabwean star Buffalo Soulja comes up at number 16. The South Africa based singing star has enjoyed a stirring 2016 and has continued to build on his profile with some banging tunes as well spreading his music tentacles continentally. The year 2016 also brought Buffalo Souljah some international recognition with his nomination at AFRIMMA 2016.

13. Mi Casa – South Africa
At number 13 we have the massively talented South African group Mi Casa. Mi Casa is a house band based in Johannesburg, South Africa and consisting of 3 members, Dr. Duda (producer) and pianist, J’Something (vocalist and guitarist), and Mo-T (trumpeter).
This year the group diversified with collaborations all over Africa namely with Eddy Kenzo and more and the results were outstanding success. Chikune has steadily earned support on the home front , consistently besting others in Namibia to the music throne. She confirmed her sterling statistics when she claimed the AFRIMMA award unheralded and she makes the list at number 10.
9. Jah Prayza -Zimbabwe
Mukudzeyi Mukombe, who performs under the name Jah Prayzah, is a Zimbabwean contemporary musician and lead member for the band Third Generation. Zonke also bagged nominations at MTV and AFRIMMA to cap a marvellous year for the silky voiced star. Without a doubt she earns he place on this list of the Top 16 Southern African ARtists of 2016 and with the form she is showing , theire is definitely loads to come in 2017.
5. Emtee – South Africa
At number 5 comes new wave rapper Emtee who knocked established names of their perch by winning Best South AFrican rapper at the SAMA 2016. Emtee also followed up by bagging his first AFRIMMA nomination to cap up an impressive year for the gifted rapper. Emtee has now firmly established himslef as one of the South African rap acts to reckon with after a stellar year and according to the camp, the wave has just started.
4. Mafikizolo – South Africa
At number 4 we have the indefatigable serial hit makers Mafikizolo. The South African music top group has displayed a consistency that has been starnge in the industry and they are well and truly on top pf the music game. 2016 was no different with chart busting songs, sold out performances and a world tour that took them to many countries around the world. The Mafikizolo fever is not stopping anytime soon and 2017 promises to be another big year for the South African superstars.

The Mega Superstar is an iconic figure in South African rap lexicon and he followed up the success of 2015 by repeating it in 2016. He won the AFRIMMA Best Male South Africa awards back to back which is an unprecedented move in the history of AFRIMMA and as usual he spinned out chat topping songs that kept his name on the lips of every South African music fam. Significantly the raging war between him and Casper Nyomvest seemed to have been nippped in the bud as the duo hugged openly in a major win for South African music. Aka is one of the giants of the South African music game and could have occupied any of the positions further forward on the list.
2. Black Coffee- South Africa
2016 BET Best African Act Black Coffee comes up the list at number 2, the seasoned performer has been quietly doing his thing and making his mark and 2016 culminated in massive international recognition with him bagging the BET crown. Black Coffee sold out on most of his international dates and it is on record he was on tour for a whole year. Black Coffee without a doubt is one of the most formidable names in Southern Africa music at the moment and this list gives honour to whom honour is due.
1. Cassper Nyovest – South Africa
Refiloe Maele Phoolo, professionally known as Cassper Nyovest, is a South African recording artist and record producer. Casper Nyovest is probably the most talked about rapper in South Africa right now after his unprecedented move of filling up the over 20,000 Capacity Orlando stadium . Cassper also continued where he left off in 2015, dropping a string of hits ‘Refiloe’, Abadze’ and more that all turned out to be chart toppers as well as bagging numerous awards and recognition. Cassper for all he has achieved this year tops our list as number 1 even as he promises 2017 would be greater.
