The 3rd edition of the Biggest African Music Awards in Diaspora African Muzik Magazine Awards AFRIMMA 2016 was ushered in by the first of its kind Music For Social Change Panel. AFRIMMA founder Anderson Obiagwu stated that, the award ceremony was not just about the occasion alone and that’s why the Music for Social Change Panel was set up with the City of Dallas as a way of contributing to positive change in the community.
The Music For Social Change panel is an intimate two-panel community discussion led by city officials, police officials, artists and community members to discuss the current state of music , race relations and other pertinent issues using the power of music and music stars. Some of the speakers on the panel moderated by Yaz Ibekwe include Regina Onyeibe, Africa Liason, City of Dallas, Madukwu Chinwah 3 time Grammy Award winning songwriter/Producer, Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson Law Firm: Former Lawyer for District Attorney, Craig Watkins, Marsha Megly ‘Smyley’ , President of Music Access IN while the likes of 2face Idibia, Kcee and Akothee from Kenya represented the artists community.
The AFRIMMA 2016 weekend activities kicked off with these ebullient speakers bare their minds on music and the role of musicians in impacting positively on the community. The session was an explosive one with the brilliant minds shedding more light on topical issues in the African music world and community.
