Xtian Shengen is an artist musician singer, guitarist, drummer, percussionist, dancer, song writer and music producer born in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Originally named Christian Kabeya, he started his first steps in music at the age of 8 by playing the Congas and singing in the local church’s Choir. Xtian’s inspiration for playing guitar came from one of his family friend who always visited him with a guitar.
At the age of 9 Xtian Shengen surprised the local community as he started playing the guitar in the local church and he was also invited to different events in the community.
At the age of 11 Xtian’s Dad passed away. Life took unexpected turn to the worse. His extended family grabbed everything that his Dad owned.There were a lot of differences between his father’s family and Mothers side. This situation made things tougher for Xtian his siblings, that’s why he decided to make music as his reel job and get money out of it to help his family as he was the first born.
At the age of 14 Xtian had already started to capture some of the local bands attention. Christian’s deep talent in playing the guitar had excelled and he was getting a lot of opportunities and support from the local community. Even though Xtian wanted to branch into different kind of music, his mother stopped him and insisted he plays for the local church.
Xtian returned to play at the church not only as a guitarist but also a drummer. He had a privilege to play with Lifoko du ciel, one of the biggest names in Congolese Gospel Music.
Xtian continued to pursue his dream in music industry secretly from his mother. He wanted to become a professional Musician. As time went on he was exploring new areas in music, he went in to music production, he learnt how to write music using computer softwares. Then he used Cubase (Steinberg) and cakewalk. At this stage he was surrounded by different kind of musicians (professionals) they invited him to work in studios in Kinshasa.
In 2001, Xtian Shengen was contacted by the lead musician (Chancelier Desi Mbwese) and they formed a band known as Planet Elegance. He joined the group and recorded an album called Correction.
In 2002, Planet Elegance came on tour to the UK and they performed many shows and festivals. These shows were artistically directed by Xtian Shengen and also they were very successful. Planet Elegance remained in the UK until 2003.
In that same year after seeing the result of the Shows, the label Comaps music ltd that organised the tour contacted Xtian Shengen to go on a UK tour with Mbilia Bel the Congolese Queen of rumba, followed by Bozi Boziana, Madilu, Evoloko…
In 2005, Koffi Olomide contacted him to play 2 shows in london with him, the first one in Royal festival hall and the second in Stratford Rex, after discovering the talent of Xtian Shengen, Koffi Olomide asked him to join his band Quartier Latin.
Xtian Shengen Officially joined Koffi Olomide in 2008 (Quartier Latin). They worked in harmony as a team until 2010. After this Christian pursed his other passion for working with the youth. He offered to transfer his skills by teaching the youth playing the guitar. This was a gift and also a way of giving back to the community and keeping the youth positive.
Xtian also formed a band using some of the street boys that he taught how to play the guitar. The group is called THE LEADERS.
Presently Xtian Shengen is also working on his first album called KATI(Inside) he choose that name because he believes, he is a role model with a lot to tell from his heart and to bring change in today’s world.
Xtian Shengen is also an ambassador for campaigning for awareness about Children with special needs in Africa. Christian support a local charity by the name (Keas Valuing Lives).
