With his brand single ‘Feeling You’, which was recently premiered on Complex UK and BBC 1Xtra, and is currently being supported by Kiss FM, Capital Xtra, Rinse FM, Hunger Magazine, GRM Daily, Link Up TV, and Earmilk, among others, doing nearly 300,000 plays on YouTube and Spotify in just a few weeks, UK Afrobeats star SONA has linked up with the VIVA Choir, for a beautiful acoustic rendition of the fast-rising single.
Originally produced by ATG Musick, who has worked with Abra Cadabra, Sneakbo and Blade Brown, among others, this acoustic version of ‘Feeling You’ sees SONA and the VIVA Choir coming together to deliver a stripped down and impassioned piano-driven version of the original track, driven by Sona’s lush vocals and effortless flow, the amazing choir’s lead vocals and backing harmonies, and the undeniable chemistry between SONA and the VIVA ladies.
Tipped for greatness as early as 2014 when he first landed on the scene, Sona has grown from strength to strength over the past 18 months, starting with his comeback single ‘Hurt Nobody’ with Sneakbo, which has, so far, clocked over 2 million plays. Sona followed this up with ‘Bamidele’ featuring Youngs Teflon, as well as his summer hit ‘Ginger’, which gave Sona his first solo single to surpass one million plays.
In that short space of time, the South London native has been championed by the likes of MTV Base, BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Rinse FM, The Beat London, Radar Radio, Reprezent Radio, KISS Fresh, The FADER, GRM Daily, Link Up TV, SBTV, Channel AKA, and the MOBO Awards, among others, and with over 5 million plays firmly under his belt, Sona is certainly one to watch within the UK music landscape in 2018.
Acclaimed British Nigerian artist and songwriter, and UK-based Afrobeats star SONA is excited to kick things off in 2018 with his excellent new single titled ‘Feeling You’ and its accompanying visuals, as premiered exclusively via Complex UK, and receiving its radio first play from DJ Target on BBC 1Xtra.
Produced by ATG Musick, who has worked with Abra Cadabra, Sneakbo and Blade Brown, among others, ‘Feeling You’ comes on the back of Sona’s latest singles ‘Ginger’, which has over 1 million plays on Spotify and YouTube, and ‘Bamidele’ featuring UK rap veteran Youngs Teflon, and is the first taste of his debut EP due out later this year.
Sona first gained notoriety in 2014 with huge underground hits ‘No Wahala’ and ‘Ijo Sona’, and was fast becoming the biggest UK Afrobeats artist in the country, before he had to go away for a couple of years. He returned 12 months ago with the massive single ‘Hurt Nobody’ with Sneakbo, which quickly clocked over 2 million plays, and followed this up with ‘Ginger’ and ‘Bamidele’ earlier this year.

Speaking about his new single ‘Feeling You’, Sona says, “The song was written during my time away from music, and it stemmed from these really strong emotions and experiences I had for a certain special someone, in the early stages of a long-term relationship. I had felt something totally different towards this person, than I had many others before and after, and that birthed the idea of this track”.

As he gears up for an even bigger 2018 on the back of a ground breaking year with the release of ‘Hurt Nobody’ with Sneakbo, ‘Ginger’ and ‘Bamidele’ featuring UK rap veteran Youngs Teflon, and over 3 million plays under his belt, British Nigerian Afrobeats star SONA comes through with a brand new banger titled ‘Get Your Number’ to close out 2017!
Produced by burgeoning beatsmith MB, ‘Get Your Number’ is a feel good mid-tempo dance track, laced with lush Afrobeats sensibilities, over which Sona showcases his infectious flow, artistic versatility, and exciting lyricism and wordplay. According to Sona, “this is a fun story of attraction and perseverance, but it’s not taking itself too seriously. I hope listeners can relate and vibe to this”.
“Take Over” hitmakers, Kwamz & Flava link up with UK Afrobeats star Sona on their latest tune “As You See“.
This serves as their early Summer ’17 single “Take My Hand“.
Back in April, Kida Kudz premiered his chilled out wave of a track “Issa Vibe” on GRM Daily and it blew up.
Now, three months later the artist is back on the channel with the tune’s official remix, enlisting Sona along the way.
The track has the same cool as f-ck vibe to it, with Sona coming through to put his own spin on the beat.
The Alize filled video keeps in line with the original’s vibe too. Peng gyals are drenched in neon lights and surrounded by greenery in this dreamlike world.”
Multi-platinum selling producer duo, Da Beatfreakz present an all-star cast of Sneakbo, Afro B, Moelogo and Sona for their visuals to their debut single ‘Quavo’.
The brothers, O1 and U1, known for their work with Kat Deluna & Jerimih on ‘What A Night’, Giggs on ‘Rap Gustavo’ and currently working with Usher, Elie Goulding, Jaquees and Sean Paul, let off the motivationally charged Afro/bashment assisted single as they begin their own journey in to the limelight.
Having established their roots as bedroom producers in the heart of South London a number of years ago, their music has since taken over all corners of the globe, seeing them relocate on numerous occasions to nurture their craft and paying dividends as their productions spiraled in to platinum selling figures and accumulating over three hundred million Youtube views. Their experimental taste and genre-bending style lay at the core of their music where they cleverly entwine an array of genres such as Afrobeats, Dancehall and R&B. Citing the blend as ‘the future of music’, their ear and appreciation of the genres are evident in their output and the quality of artists that they work closely with.
With the current musical climate that we are in “its amazing to see how African music is widely spreading into mainstream audiences. For us it’s an exciting time to be making music, to be part of history in the making within the African diaspora.” says Da Beatfreakz.
“The intro to ‘Quavo’ starts of with Divine Oduduru, a Nigerian athlete who went viral his statement “We African people we are born great” –this resonated with us and felt it was the right way to start off our forth coming project”
Premiered by BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target, the record is dubbed as “the new wave” by the producers themselves; ‘Quavo’ a reference to Migo’s is a true depiction of how widely Hip-Hop culture is personified by one movement.
UK-based Afrobeats star, Sona is currently enjoying massive airplay on the mainstream market with the single “Ginger“.
The singer expectedly rides the wave of his ever-growing popularity by releasing a new song titled “Bamidele” featuring Youngs Teflon. Peep the joint below.
British Nigerian musician RaysMuzik may not yet be at the forefront of the UK Afrobeats music landscape, but he is certainly one of the most exciting new prospects within the burgeoning genre. The London-based artist already has over 2 million streams across YouTube and Soundcloud, and garners support from the likes of BBC 1Xtra, Beat FM London and Rinse FM, among others.
For his new single titled ‘For Me’ and its accompanying visuals, premiered via Complex UK, RaysMuzik links up with fellow fast-rising UK Afrobeats star Sona, whose recent collaboration with Sneakbo, ‘Hurt Nobody’ has 1.5 million views on YouTube, as well as frequent collaborator DJ Sean, after their 2016 collaboration ‘Badda Man’ went on to break the 1-million views milestone on YouTube.
Produced by ATG, who has previously worked with Sneakbo, Afro B and Dr. Vades, ‘For Me’ is a lush dance floor filler, led by a thumping bassline and glorious drum arrangements, over which RaysMuzik’s infectious vocals and assured flow take centre stage. The record is further brought to life by its vibrant visuals, directed by Visionnaire Pictures (Big Narstie, Paigey Cakey, Bridget Kelly).
Speaking about the inspiration behind his ‘For Me’ collaboration with Sona and DJ Sean, RaysMuzik says, “the record was inspired by a video I watched on Instagram of some friends having fun on a Friday night. I just want listeners to be able to let their hair down after a long week of hard work, whatever their hustle or grind may be, and have ‘For Me’ be their weekend soundtrack”.
UK Afrobeats act, Sona is definitely making up for lost time with back to back releases.
Here’s the visuals to his new single “Ginger“, hot on the heels of “Story“, a jam with dropped earlier this month.
